Copper Canyon 2009
USA-Mexico

The Copper Canyon
which is located in Mexico's Sierra Madre Mountains, is actually four times larger than the Grand Canyon. This canyon is also different overall in nature, deeper, narrower and more verdant. The canyon is homeland of the cave-dwelling Tarahumara Indians, the world's greatest long-distance runners. It has a rich history and many legends, such as where Pancho Villa’s Army operated and is also haunted by fallen warrior spirits. The Mundo Expedition Team plans to explore this area by starting out in Creel, which is atop the canyon at 8,000 feet in altitude, work our way down to Batopilas, a town on the Batopilas River at the bottom of a canyon, which was a silver mine town and originally established by the Spanish around 1632. .
